Converting from Chinese characters ‘大(large)’ and '女(woman)', the initial idea of【8 Femmes】is to indicate a new species which is differentiated from the 'large' number of 'normal' women. The two new-invented characters represent new skins growing from old wounds as well as the practise of interrupting/simulating habitual thinking. 8 Femmes includes works from eight young artists who are usually labeled as Taiwanese, female or queer. No matter how far they have traveled from their hometown, Taiwan, they carry their own homes, and these exiles keep crossing various boundaries of nationality, body and time. At the time they are covered by multi-identities, they re-create new stories and unexpected sounds from the norms with calm or violent gestures in addition to revealing the precious experiences of queer temporality and diaspora..
